The Center for Protected Area Management was formed to strengthen teaching, research, and outreach, related to the management of the world's protected areas. CPAM supports protected area management agencies, conservation NGOs, community-based organizations, universities, and others, in the development, implementation, and evaluation of training and capacity development programs. In addition, CPAM supports partners through technical collaboration projects and in the joint development of training materials and management tools that aid protected area practitioners.
In order to actively support our ongoing training courses and outreach activities, we have created an expendable fund that allows individuals to make donations to support our current activities. For example, funds raised through this account will support our annual Spanish language Protected Area Management course. This course is offered each July in Colorado for dedicated protected area rangers and managers from Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries from the Americas and Africa. This fund will also support our ongoing training courses given in Latin America to train dedicated conservationists that are building park systems and trail networks, and engaging local communities in the collaborative management of our shared natural and cultural heritage throughout Latin America.
