The Center for Protected Area Management was formed to strengthen teaching, research, and outreach related to the management of the world’s protected areas. CPAM supports protected area management agencies, conservation NGOs, community-based organizations, universities, and others in the development, implementation, and evaluation of capacity development programs. In addition, CPAM supports partners through technical collaboration projects and in the joint development of training materials and management tools that aid protected area practitioners. In order to ensure the sustainability of CPAM’s work over time, an endowment has been initiated that will provide seed funding in support of CPAM’s mission.
This endowment was started by the grassroots efforts of our team members and our loyal supporters. The goal is to grow the endowment from the initial contribution of $25,000 to over $500,000 within 10 years. We already have a commitment of $75,000 from George and Nancy Wallace and hope to continue to grow the endowment by at least $20,000 per year. Investment income from the endowment will be used to fund CPAM’s annual training activities carried out regularly in the United States and in developing nations.
