Dr. Kianna Middleton, the inaugural recipient of the Colorado State University Libraries’ Friedman Feminist Press Research Grant, will present her crucial research into the intersections of Black feminism, disability, sexuality, and poetry. Her presentation, “‘earthbound and melancholy’: Poetry and Longing in the Inner Lives of Black Feminists, 1970s-1980s,” is a meditation on archival materials from CSU’s Friedman Feminist Press Collection. By reading poetry across feminist periodicals and feminist literary journals, this presentation examines Black women’s expressions of longing and isolation as critical dimensions of their Blackness and sexuality.
