Justin was always passionate for all of his wide-ranging interests, from music, to off-roading, to his studies, and German language and culture was no exception. Upon his entry into collegiate level German courses at Colorado State University, Justin began to share his love of the language with anyone who would listen. He would often teach simple sayings or phrases to people, not only to practice his own German skills, but also to broaden the exposure of the language and culture to others on campus. His coursework in German Language, Literatures and Cultures led him to study abroad in Hannover, Germany through a joint program with the Colorado State University College of Liberal Arts and the University of Hannover. In the summer of 2006, Justin enjoyed a true exposure to German culture, including soccer rallies for the World Cup, city excursions, late-night discussions with German students, and brewery tours -among countless other activities.
The time studying in Germany strengthened his resolve to major in German upon his return to Colorado State. His love for the language and culture was unquestionable, and it was his tendency to impart as much of this passion to everyone he knew - and one couldn't help but become excited and interested, just because of his enthusiasm. The purpose of the Justin Lee Cook Memorial Scholarship is to provide support for students studying German with as much passion as Justin did at Colorado State University.
