In 1971, Laurel Kubin (B.S., '71, consumer sciences and housing, College of Home Economics) joined Colorado State
University as a CSU extension agent for 4-H and home economics in Rio Blanco
County. Kubin excelled as an extension agent and was promoted to the position
of county director in less than a year. In 1992, Kubin accepted the role of county extension director for Larimer County. As director, Kubin was highly
involved in the development of the Ranch, and she created and implemented a
critical financial literacy initiative. After 46 years and a robust career with
extension, Kubin retired from her role as county extension director for Larimer
County in 2017. Inspired by her rich history with CSU and extension, Kubin
established the Laurel and Frank Kubin Scholarship to support students enrolled
in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Scholarship awards will be given
to students majoring in one of the original home economics departments: Design
and Merchandising, Food Science and Human Nutrition, Human Development and
Family Studies, and the School of Education/Family and Consumer Sciences.
