A CSU Tradition Since 1924
It takes a lot to get the A ready for the year, and being a part of the annual Painting of the A tradition is well worth it! Join CSU students and alumni for a day of service and get an "I Painted the A" t-shirt!
What to Expect
Each shift is approximately two and a half hours long. Volunteers must use provided transportation from the Iris & Michael Smith Alumni Center and must stay for the duration of their shift. Expect to help with painting the A, re-filling supplies and clean-up. Light to moderate lifting may be required for some equipment. The A is not accessible and volunteers will complete a short hike in order to reach the A for painting - each participant is required to sign a liability waiver at check-in. Remember to wear sunscreen and bring plenty of water! Due to the semi-strenuous nature of this activity, participants must be 18 years or older.
Shift 1: Check-in at 8 a.m.; deadline to check-in is 8:15 a.m.
Departure from Smith Alumni Center: 8:30 a.m.
Painting the A: 9 - 10:30 a.m.
Return to Smith Alumni Center: 11 a.m.
Shift 2: Check-in at 9:30 a.m.; deadline to check-in is 9:45 a.m.
Departure from Smith Alumni Center: 10 a.m.
Painting the A: 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Return to Smith Alumni Center: 12:30 p.m.
Shift 3: Check-in at 11 a.m.; deadline to check-in is 11:15 a.m.
Departure from Smith Alumni Center: 11:30 a.m.
Painting the A: 12 - 1:30 p.m.
Return to Smith Alumni Center: 2 p.m.
Check-in will be located at the Iris & Michael Smith Alumni Center. If you do not check-in by the time your shift is scheduled to start, you risk losing your spot to someone on the waiting list. All participants must use the provided bus transportation. There is no parking available at the A.
Plan on getting dirty and getting clothes covered in paint. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. Jeans or long pants are also recommended. Remember to bring a water bottle and wear sunscreen! You will receive your commemorative "I Painted the A" shirt once you return from your shift!
