Frankie’s Feline Stem
Cell Research fund supports research and clinical trials evaluating stem cell
therapy as a novel treatment option for diseases of cats that currently do not have
definitive treatments or cures. Some of the diseases we have already started
investigating include acute and chronic kidney failure, inflammatory bowel
disease, and asthma. Deborah Felin Magaldi established the fund in honor of her
best friend Frankie to help advance stem cell research for cats as well as
humans. Frankie was a Siamese cat that became ill with acute kidney failure as
a result of medication she received for an inflammatory mouth condition. In
2009, Frankie participated in a CSU stem cell therapy clinical trial for cats
with kidney failure. Your contribution will help us find needed treatment
options for our feline companions and possibly for people as well.
